Module I | Courses A1 - B1 CEFR |
Module II | Courses B2 + C1 CEFR available as Academic German Semester |
Module III | Preparation course for the digital TestDaF |
If you already have a B1 (CEFR) German language certificate you should apply for the Academic German Semester, which consists of Module II and Module III. It is not possible to apply separately for a course level (A1 to C1 CEFR) or Module I.
The programme fee for the whole year amounts to € 3,990.00 and includes the German classes, exams from Module I and Module II as well as all books and teaching materials.
The course fee is paid in two instalments. A pre-payment of € 490.00 as part of the registration process and a final payment of € 3,500.00 which is due until September 15.
The University of Passau does not offer scholarships for the Academic German Year.
For detailed information about the payment modalities please consult the Applications page.
A number of extracurricular activities will be offered, for example a guided tour of Passau, a sightseeing boat trip on the Danube, trips to Munich, Regensburg and Salzburg, excursions to local businesses, seminars and many more. The program varies from year to year.
Accommodation is not included in the course fee. The International Office has an accommodation service to support international students.
Participants in the Academic German Year are not enrolled and do not receive a certificate of enrolment (German: Immatrikulationsbescheinigung). Hence you will not qualify for public health insurance.
You have the possibility to apply for a CampusCard without receiving the students status. This is optional. For the CampusCard every semester a fee of € 118.50 (as of 01/2025) needs to be paid to the University. The GCP-office support you during your application process.
Every course level (A1 to C1 CEFR) concludes with a final exam consisting of four parts: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
All students who pass the exam will receive a German language certificate with an overall evaluation score in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The German language certificates issued during the Academic German Year are accepted by the University of Passau.
The programm finishes with a preparatory course for the digital TestDaF. The participation is optional. The test fee is not included in the Academic German Year course fee.
